VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES IN RWANDA

Because our volunteer program in Kenya has been such a success, we are now able to offer volunteer opportunities in Rwanda in collaboration with the Access Project.

Rwamagana

The Access Project is working with government hospitals in three rural districts, Rwamagana, Bugesera and Musanze. The physicians at all three of those hospitals are hardworking and eager to learn from their American counterparts. The nursing staff are likewise eager to help, and are proud of the improvements they are making to their hospitals.

Bugesera

Comfortable accommodations are available near all three facilities. Volunteers at Rwamagana and Bugesera can even stay at 5-star hotels within commuting distance, in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. Musanze is somewhat farther away from Kigali – about 2 hours distant, close to Volcanoes National Park, home of the mountain gorillas.

Bugesera

All three hospitals are seeking volunteers in internal medicine, pediatrics and ob-gyn. They would also welcome surgical teams, particularly surgeons who can repair fistulas. They have reasonably well-equipped operating rooms. The hospitals will identify potential surgical patients in advance, will arrange a pre-op clinic the first day, and will make operating rooms available thereafter.

Musanze

If a rural setting does not match your skills or preferences, there are also opportunities at King Faisal Hospital in Kigali, the referral center for the region. King Faisal Hospital, which is in the midst of an ambitious project to become the finest hospital in central Africa, is interested in volunteers from all specialties.
